Marriage Proposal at Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina

Posted in: Engagements, Proposals

If you have been following our blog, you have seen our Charlotte, North Carolina engagement session with Tameeka and Kiplon. What you might not know, is during their engagement session in Romare Bearden Park, we came across a group of people by the fountains. Everyone was dressed in all black and seemed to be waiting for something to happen. As we began taking photos of Tameeka and Kip, someone approached us. He asked us if we were the photographers for the marriage proposal. Because we were not the photographers they hired and had no idea what he was talking about, he filled us in on what was happening. He asked Tameeka and Kip if they would play a role in the proposal. Of course they said “Yes!”

The plan was that Tameeka and Kip would continue taking photos with us and when the other couple came by, they would hand the couple a box of mementos from their relationship. The moment came where the other couple, Jack and Lanaire, had arrived. As they walked down the sidewalk, Tameeka and Kip walked up to them and handed them the box. Corey and I immediately started snapping pictures of this moment. We followed right behind them.

As they came down the sidewalk and entered the fountain area it became very clear what was happening. Jack had all of their friends and family lined up, each holding letters that spelled out, “Will you marry me?” He brought Lanaire over to a blanket set up in front of them and got down on one knee. Right as she said, “YES,” fireworks began to go off and the crowd cheered and celebrated. It was absolutely perfect and we were able to capture all of it! Because they were taking in the amazing moment, we didn’t get a chance to exchange information.

Fast forward to a week later. Corey and I were trying to figure out how we could get in touch with this couple and get them these pictures we happened to capture. We talked about posting it online but weren’t sure. Then we got a Facebook notification that two of our friends tagged us in. Lanaire had posted a photo her photographers took that had us in the background. She had circled us and asked if any of her friends happened to recognize us. Surprisingly, we had two mutual friends that did! She wanted to see if we happened to get any photos. We immediately emailed them and were able to give them everything we captured! I posted the story on our social media with a photo of them. That evening Wedding Wire shared the story and our photo on their social media!

By far one of the coolest stories we have experienced in our careers! We even met back up a few months later to shoot their engagement photos for them!
